Car Auto Online | Daihatsu | Daihatsu, with legal company name Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., is the oldest Japanese car manufacturer, best known for its smaller models and off-road vehicles. Many of his models are also known as Kei Jidosha (or kei cars) in Japan. Its headquarters are in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture.

The name "Daihatsu" is a combination of the first kanji for Osaka and the first "production engine" word), when put together are pronounced "dai Hatsu".

Daihatsu was established in 1951, following the organization and since 1960 Hatsudoki had started to export cars in Europe, though not enjoyed great sales success until well into 1980.

Since February 1992, in North America, it was common that the distribution of Daihatsu models has been done by Toyota.

In January 2011, Daihatsu has announced it will withdraw from Europe in 2013, citing continued strong yen, which makes it difficult to turn a profit in its export activities. Daihatsu sales in Europe had fallen 58 000 in 2007 before the financial crisis, and 19000 in 2010.

Although its roots can be traced back to 1907, the Daihatsu brand was not used until 1951. When the production of three-wheelers, Daihatsu built the first four wheels in 1958. From the beginning, the company is now part of Toyota specializes in small cars and four wheel drive jeep. In 1966, Buddy has had the honor of being the first Japanese car to be imported, very briefly, the United Kingdom.

A small car range was dominated by a small Domino and Charade models, mostly three-cylinder, including a small part of the 1.0 turbo diesel. The final model was Kolmisylinerinen turbo Charade GTTI, who managed the 99bhp 993cc engine.

The Japanese national tax laws led to a generation of K-class small city-cars, which had to meet strict performance and dimensions. Daihatsu Cuore, with a 547cc two-cylinder, appeared in 1976. This was followed a decade later by the Leeza, with the turbo version producing 50bhp.

First off-road 4WD Daihatsu was the utility Taft, available in 1.0 petrol engines a 2.5-liter diesel. Fourtrak, in 1985, has more work than off-road lifestyle. SporTrak, which was introduced in 1990, is aimed at leisure, even if he is late new cars like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

A little 'relaxation in the K-class rules to allow these trucks to be slightly higher. Small five-door Move, designed in collaboration with the IDEA in Italy, a 12-valve 847cc engine Kolmisylinerinen, with three five-speed automatic transmission option for manual box. United Kingdom to promote the move reflects a bizarre appearance (ads used the word "strange") - even if its short duration, has a roofline tall enough to allow the driver to use a top hat. Great is the conventional move, basically a small MPV with a 1.5 liters engine.

Overall British Daihatsu series tend to be characterized by dynamically unremarkable but unusually packaged smaller vehicles. A possible exception might be the elegant Copen Roadster .
